2 yıl önceI am not allowed to put down what I really think with the first words that come to my mind. But the employees of this store are something else. The surroundings have clinics and hotels as well as luxury shopping trips that are marketed to our Arab brothers and sisters and their families. They come generous with their money usually, and overall humbly. I know first hand the stigmas surrounding their presence and share empathy with those who are offended by certain cultural differences. But I experienced something where no empathy could be found for the Turkish employees after they belittled two Arab women, separately shopping there, right in front of my eyes. Specifically it was one young woman employee who went over to an Arab sister and aggressively and arrogantly took socks from her when the sister was trying to understand something, looking confused and a little stressed. Without knowing any Arabic myself, I could clearly understand from this sister's gestures she made to convey her needs, that she needed the price. The employee scolded her and didn't give herself time to listen to the female. She said things like "what's wrong with you? Tell me what you want? The price? Speak. Talk, tell me what you want! " And stared her down with a coldness, inches from her face, while saying this. She proceeded to find a price and size she could understand by then the female wanted, but after looking to her work, the employee broke the silence of the female's obedience to her hateful controlling attitude as she stood patiently waiting, to say "speak." "Speak! " (In English now). At the register the other sister who was not asked for a bag before her check out began, asked for one after she paid. She was belittled too, while another female employee continued to forcibly tell her in Turkish, despite she obviously didn't understand Turkish, that the bag should have been paid for with her purchase. This employee gave the bag, the woman seemed to actually understand but wasn't offered a chance to pay, and certainly didn't have enough words to offer or ask for a resolution. It was futile to yell at her and continue to wave the bag around with her purchase in it while more aggressively repeating, in turkish, that she was suppose to Pay for it. I continued to hear the first employee in the background degrading the first sister. I kept quiet until she came to the check out counter and looked for empathy from her coworkers as she degraded both women. I shopped alongside both women, suggesting to them the size they should get because I'm familiar with the irregular sizing of the clothes at this place. We all bought the same model pj set :) and they were sweethearts. They used whatever small Turkish and English words they knew while speaking. They were good spirited, very humble, and thus vulnerable to this abuse. So I spoke up respectful to everyone, interjecting the cashiers repeatings about the bag to shake her into reality so she'd see what she was doing, and I offered to put the cost of the bag on my tab, and explained even I'm a foreigner, they said they could understand me. But I pointed out the fact it's a tourist area, with many Turkish businesses in the area of welcoming them and that their abuse doesn't have a place anywhere for any reason. I especially called out the first female employee. Mixed into this was a male employee who vocalized his empathy to the first female employee and ignored the vocalized abuse from both female employees. I was very clear that the first female employee has no place working in this entire city with her attitude. It was so repulsive. I couldn't even be overwhelmed with anger, thankfully, because I consider her behavior and words "fighting words. " I actually felt grief. So so evilllish and inappropriate.
