The taxis are the worst especially if you are in a tourist spot - it's like their horn comes out - when they see a tourist. You are better off using a bitaksi app but never haggle or communicate with the driver on wanting to add another stop or they'll charge you whatever fee they feel like.

The worst scammers I have ever come across. Always ask for the max price and tell them to show you the taxi meter. Follow the route on Google maps, if they deviate, ask why, or tell them to stop. One asked for 900tl (30 euros) for a 500 meter drive. Another wanted 1000tl for the same route as I payed 390tl the day before!!! The tourist police help you if you need help. Public transport is a way better alternative. Taxi in Istanbul is the last resort for transport.

We took the taxi from SAW to Galata region, ISTANBUL The meter was already on but it stopped at 1200 turkish lira when we arrived. But the cab driver took the longest road with all the tolls ”a toll cost about 25-50 lira” Per toll, there was three of them on my trip and the charged 1200 lira more. So the total was 2200 lira. The drive over a bridge and the say it cost money, but it doesent. There is drive ways without any tools, or just one. So be careful. I hate this country because of their way that the are cheating their tourist. We took the Yellow taksis. The standard price for a cab from SAW is between 500-900 turkish lira one way, not more. My tip is to take the bus or Metro then Maybe just walk a little bit.
