Avoid these scammers. Turkey needs to get a grip on these cheating thugs. Coming out of the Terracity Mall, my wife - Chinese (with limited English) - headed for the first taxi in the rank. An aggressively grunting man tried to block her, then as she reached the car door he made sure to stop me passing too. Meanwhile, the driver appeared very upset, frantically waving us away. The grunter started yelling at my wife about ignoring him, not looking at him. I told him we had no idea who he was. "I am his boss," he yelled, pointing at the driver. "You first talk to me or no taxi!" As we walked from the threat, this 'boss' started with the abuse: 'Goodbye, go home with Thai bride, don't come back to Turkey, we don't want you." etc. We walked a few blocks away and ordered a yellow taxi from Uber (the only choice). The first three cancelled on us, although they were close. The fourth picked us up, only for a very dodgy guy to appear from a back lane and start threatening the driver - who again appeared scared - and aggressively gesturing to us. Once I threatened to call the police he angrily waved our car away. Hotel staff later told us that Antalya's taxi companies are essentially ruled by the local Mafia, but that Istanbul has no such problem - although we were later scammed there too. Whatever the truth is, this was a horrible experience for us in one of Turkey's most popular tourist resorts. We first visited Turkey in 2018 and had very few problems, yet this time we had a number of nasty and exhausting encounters with aggressive scammers. I have no idea whether we were just lucky then, or this is a symptom of the fish rotting from the head. Regardless, we won't be going back to Turkey, which is a shame given its beautiful landscapes, culture and history.

Driver tried to scam us. Had his meter hidden. Asked for 1200 lira when fare should have been under 700 (Lara beach to Old Town - 8km). Asked him to show his meter which said we had gone 33km. Got aggressive when I told him he was scamming us and tried to grab my money out my hand.
